Did you know that both; Husky Safari and Reindeer Herder Experience are not only a thrilling adventure but also an ecological choice?
In Saariselkä we have our own Husky kennel, where dog welfare is number one. [1]
In other destinations only carefully selected and conscious kennels are used. Our choice is to share the joy and speed of the husky dogs instead of snowmobiles. Unlike any motorized transportation, husky sleds have minimal impact on the environment as they glide over the snow, leaving no carbon footprint behind.
During the Reindeer Herder Experience, you will get to learn about traditional Sámi culture and their lifestyle in the Arctic ecosystem. The Sámi people traditionally hold great reverence for the natural world and its inhabitants. Their traditional practices and rituals include high regard for the Arctic nature and the Reindeers.
Tips! Be prepared with some questions for Sami, you might be meeting one if you join us on this activity!

Did you know that more than 75% of Finland's and 68.7% of Sweden’s land area is covered by forest? [2] [3]
Utilising these local resources that don't need as much concrete raw material production or huge transportation emissions is the best practice for the environment. With the same principle, we mostly use log cabins for your stay in Lapland.
Besides, in Finnish Lapland, our cottages are powered by Vattenfall carbon zero-emission energy. So you can enjoy the sauna without a worry!

Each of these activities has been carefully selected and offered for its minimal carbon footprint, ensuring that your adventures leave behind nothing but footprints in the memories that last a lifetime.
Moreover, our fjord cruise boasts an incredibly low environmental impact, making it an ideal choice for eco-conscious explorers.
In Fjords we use a fully electrical vessel to explore the beautiful fjords. Meaning it minimises its environmental impact on the UNESCO-listed fjord. Being powered by batteries also means there is no noise pollution, to the benefit of passengers and wildlife alike [4]. While there is a cost to the activity itself - you can enjoy the view guilt-free!

Some of our trips use ferries. While ferries may not be the most eco-friendly means, we have partners who make sustainable practices. Our partners have been well prepared and aware of such emissions and are doing the best they can to minimise them. [7]

We do understand that buses are not the most comfortable choice for transportation, especially with longer journeys. However, besides it being the reason for our trips to be one the most student-friendly budget trips in Scandinavia, it is also an environmentally friendly choice for your travelling. So kudos to your choice!

While these choices may sound small but with the long distance we cover (e.g. Helsinki - Saariselkä, one way is 1087 KMs), it sums up to a significant saver!

Partnerships with reputable carbon offset projects like the Finnish Natural Heritage Foundation (Suomen Luonnonperintösäätiö), we have initiatives that actively reduce or offset emissions. The foundation aims to promote Finnish nature conservation and preserve natural areas, primarily forests. [8]
While we acknowledge that carbon offsetting alone may not solve all environmental challenges, it plays a crucial role in our mission.
Every trip gives our travellers the choice to offset their carbon emissions and contribute to the preservation of Finland's natural treasures. For just 5 Euros, you can protect 10 square meters of pristine forest, leaving an undeniable mark of sustainability on your unforgettable snow adventure. Donation is paid to the foundation in full without deduction.

We understand that our journey towards environmental sustainability is ongoing. Thus we have hereby started to assess and improve our environmental performance in any way we can.
Everyone can be part of the issue or part of the solution. Here are a few tips from us:
The heavier you pack, the more it leads to CO2 emissions from any means of transportation. Thus pack smartly!
Yes... as much as practically possible! (see the table 1 above for reference)
E.g. water bottles, coffee thermos, shopping bags, etc...
You sure will need good layers of clothes to enjoy the Lappish weather! If you need to shop just for a trip, consider second-hand or clothes rental options instead of buying new items for one-time use only.
To optimise the food waste, we offer a shared grocery stop on almost all of our trips where the accommodation mates can buy the groceries together. Plan your days well!
As we say in the sauna: “Close the door!”, when indoor/outdoor temperature difference is high, it is important to keep doors and windows closed to minimise heat dispersion and pollution from heat production - may it be the bus, accommodation or as said, sauna!
Remember, small actions can lead to significant change. Let's take steps towards a greener future, hand in hand.
